摘要: Airway remodeling is extremely important in the pathophysiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Since site and nature airflow obstruction was described by Hogg, Thurlbeck, Macklem, investigators have been looking for methods to noninvasively measure airway wall dimensions subjects with at risk COPD. The advent proliferation computed tomography (CT) initially allowed quantify changes lung parenchymal structure emphysema, more recently attention has turned measurement dimensions. Unfortunately, while density relatively easy quantify, reliable measurements proven be difficult obtain. However, recent advances CT technology new computer algorithms changed way measured airways using CT, it now hoped that many early issues surrounding can resolved. because well known limitation caused a combination changes. phenotypic expression these different subtypes COPD vital therapy designed modulate inflammation may contraindicated emphysema phenotype visa versa. Therefore, imaging techniques are very likely play front-line role study will, hopefully, allow clinicians individuals, thereby personalizing their treatment.
