摘要: The first marine sediment cores from the unexplored Independence Fjord system and theWandel Sea, North Greenland, have been investigated to reveal glacial history of region. Two key sites in system, an earlier analysed site Wandel Sea continental slope, off mouth Fjord, are presented. early Holocene record (10.0–8.9 Kya) fine-grained reddish muds with calcareous microfossils, dominated by benthic foraminifera Cassidulina neoteretis. We suggest that a semi-permanent fast ice cover characterized region Holocene, deeper troughs were intruded subsurface Atlantic water. A stiff diamicton, at least 1.3 m thick, coal sandstone clasts mainly local origin, 0.5-m-thick cover, found one sites. diamicton is assumed represent subglacial till predating sediments (>10 Kya). Shallow seismic records kilometre-sized signs erosion, deposition glaciomarine deposition. These features could indicate debouching some time during last period extended mid-outer shelf. Data high-resolution core previously retrieved adjacent slope maximum sheet advance this area culminated about 25–20 Kya.
