摘要: Background: Severe visual loss occurs in the presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (POHS) and age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) from subfoveal neovascularization. Although laser photocoagulation has recently been recommended for this complication ARMD, treatment is inevitably associated with a of central vision. In an attempt to restore and/or preserve vision, authors undertook surgical removal neovascular membranes these diseases. Methods: Patients POHS ARMD reduced Snellen acuity 20/ 80 or less were selected if there was angiographic evidence membrane beneath fovea. Modern vitreoretinal techniques used remove complex. Results: The authors' first 15 patients 19 followed average 4 months postoperatively. improved by 2 lines more 8 (53%) cases POHS. similar improvements not observed 14 (74%) showed either slight improvement stabilization their vision Complications included recurrent neovascularization (13%) 3 (16%) eyes respectively. No retinal detachment preretinal proliferation observed. Conclusions: These results suggest that can be successfully removed preservation fovea) at least short term. Visual even after 6 decreased Finally, prognosis most dependent on integrity RPE membrane.
