摘要: Abstract Background Decline of cognitive function with age may be due, in part, to atherosclerotic changes. The aim the present study was determine relative contribution cardiovascular disease (CVD) functioning middle-aged and elderly men. Methods In a cross-sectional study, tests were administered 400 independently living men aged 40–80 years. Compound scores calculated for memory function, processing capacity/speed, executive function. MMSE used as measure global Carotid intima-media thickness, pulse wave velocity ankle brachial blood pressure index assessed measures sub-clinical CVD. adjusted association prevalent CVD neuropsychological test total group subgroups by linear regression analysis. Results Increased IMT associated lower on performance, increased PWV capacity functioning. Compared subjects no CVD, both diseases related β 's (95% CI) −0.45 (−0.83, −0.07) (−0.84, 0.01), respectively. These associations Furthermore, we observed that who had or distribution MMSE-scores shifted toward values; distributions statistically different ( p =0.003). Conclusions results this support relation suggest actions prevent decline preventing atherosclerosis should taken before middle age.
