Divergent Projections from the Anterior Inferotemporal Area TE to the Perirhinal and Entorhinal Cortices in the Macaque Monkey

摘要: Area TE is located at the latter part of ventral visual cortical pathway, which essential for recognition objects. projects heavily to perirhinal region, important memory To study organization projections from (areas 35 and 36) and entorhinal (area 28) cortices, we made focal injections Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin (PHA-L) large biocytin or wheat germ agglutinin conjugated horseradish peroxidase (WGA-HRP) into anterior levels in macaque monkeys. Injections PHA-L (TEav) resulted labeling terminals distributed widely area 36 (approximately one-half its total extent), although injection sites were limited 0.7 mm width. The labeled tended be denser medial 36. There was less dense but definite lateral 28. After a single WGA-HRP dorsal (TEad), confined small region 36 (less than one-tenth extent). areas 28 from TEad much sparser those TEav. different patterns together with previously reported differences their afferent other efferent connections, suggest functional differentiation between TEav TEad. divergent projection cortex may facilitate association features cortex.
