Barriers to community support for the dementia carer: a qualitative study

摘要: Objectives To understand how carers of dementia sufferers gain access to community support and determine potential barriers for carers. Design Qualitative study using semi-structured interviews after an Aged Care Assessment Team intervention. Setting Australian metropolitan Team. Subjects 24 live-in sufferers. Main outcome measures Carers' subjective experience sources stress in their care the sufferer focusing on interactions with general practitioner formal agencies. Results Most suffered high levels stress, mainly due behaviour disturbances needs sufferers. Problems health agencies were also reported by a majority be contributors distress. General practitioners perceived have referred late care, despite carer having experienced difficulties considerable time period. Carers complained that too little information was provided about diagnosis dementia, deal problem behaviours services before assessment procedure. Conclusions Problems interaction between appear important delaying appropriate information. Earlier recognition carers' problems, provision better education earlier may lessen degree carers.
