摘要: During the last 50 years, United States has increasingly relied on automobile for local travel. Public transit been ignored while enormous resources were poured into highway development. With a steady rise in standard of living, more and households have able to afford automobiles. These events resulted sprawling land-use patterns outside older cities low-density “suburbanlike” environments newer (see Baldassare, 1981). The automobile-oriented metropolitan form is now permanent part landscape. However, recent circumstances, including energy crisis (Foley, 1976), required urban areas explore alternative modes transporting people. In this context, serious questions raised about fiscal social costs building operating mass systems within new form. issues are partially addressed by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) impact study, which was conducted San Francisco region.
