摘要: Although the bacteria involved in iron cycle have been recognized since last century, they received scant attention compared with those responsible for cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur. This is hardly surprising; although forms 5% by weight earth’s crust considerable economic importance, involvement global little quantitative significance (Nealson, 1983). In presence oxygen at near neutral pH, conditions which prevail over much this planet, oxidation its precipitation deposition as ferric form, Fe(III), essentially a chemical process. The reaction is, however, dependent on ferrous [Fe(II)] concentration, temperature, ionic strength solution. freshwater system where two components were relatively stable, Davison Seed (1983) found no evidence biological mediation reaction. Given solubility product 10−38 M Fe(OH)3 therefore probable maximum concentration free Fe(III) neutrality 10−17 what, then, likely systems?
