Toward a Reconceptualization of Regional Development Paths: Is Leipzig's Media Cluster a Continuation of or a Rupture with the Past?

摘要: This article develops a model of regional development that is then used to examine the evolution two media industries in Leipzig, Germany. We note city's current cluster, centered on television/film production and interactive digital media, shares little common with once-premier book publishing cluster. Treating learning as primary causal mechanism drives economic growth change, our conceptual framework incorporates both sectoral/technological political crises mechanisms rupture paths. These paths are not homogeneous, but instead consist bundles various technological trajectories. Regions recover from their actors continually rebundle local assets until they find combination generates growth.
