摘要: There is increasing recognition of the interaction between cardiovascular disease and cognitive function.1 The effects performance on function remain unclear, however. This relevant for patients who require pacemaker implantation symptomatic bradycardia, as many such are elderly use suboptimal pacing modes may expose them to intermittent hypotension increased risks atrial fibrillation. Intermittent hypotension, associated with impaired cerebral autoregulation in elderly, cause ischaemia, fibrillation predominant multi-infarct dementia well a recognised risk factor Alzheimer’s dementia. Through these conditions therapy have an adverse effect function. We therefore designed this study assess bradycardia after permanent test hypothesis that single chamber ventricular (VVI(R)) detrimental when compared based pacing. Patients recruited either two multi-centre trials (UKPACE or STOP-AF) at Freeman Hospital Newcastle upon Tyne, January 1997 May 1999, were invited participate randomisation VVI(R) pacing. Cognitive assessments undertaken one month, year, years using CAMCOG (the section Cambridge examination mental disorders elderly) CANTAB (Cambridge neuropsychological …
