Giving voice to cancer patients: assessing non-specific effects of an integrative oncology therapeutic program via short patient narratives.

摘要: Objective The aim of this study was to assess patient perspectives regarding non-specific effects a complementary medicine (CM) consultation and intervention within an integrative oncology setting. Methods Patients undergoing chemotherapy in community-based service were referred by healthcare providers physician trained CM-oriented supportive care. Assessment concerns well-being made using the Measure Yourself Concerns Wellbeing questionnaire, at baseline after 3 months CM treatments, which designed improve quality life (QoL) outcomes. Patients asked describe most important aspects treatment process. Free-text narratives examined content analysis with ATLAS.Ti software for systematic coding. Results Of 152 patients' analyzed, 44% reported experience patient-centered care, including practitioners' approach togetherness, uniqueness, invoking internal practitioner experienced context enhanced sense confidence; gaining different perspective; acquiring emotional resilience empowerment.
