摘要: This paper investigates whether job stability in western Germany shows any signs of decline and compares the findings to evidence for US UK. Cross sectional data calendar information from German Socioeconomic Panel 1984-1997 are combined allowing check possible influences oversampling long jobs cross data. Three different measures looked at. All indicate that there is a stability, not fully explained by business cycle: median elapsed tenure male workers declined around 10 years 8.5, probability be short seems increase relatively steadily both males females, hazard ending has become increasingly higher despite fact economy experienced post-unification boom current recession. Cox proportional models groups labor market show men women equally affected. Part-time workers, although generally more likely end their job, have suffered less. As ’outsiders’ difficulties finding stable rough times separate analyses carried out those who entered directly unemployment or non-participation enter having just finished highest degree. These compared ’insiders’ switch directly. While less leave new outsiders face increasing risks termination.
