摘要: Background: Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is widely usedinclinicsandresearchtomeasurebodycomposition. However, the results of BIA validation with reference methods are contradictory, and few data available on influence adiposity measurement body composition by BIA. Objective:The goal was to determine effects sex adiposityonthedifferenceinpercentagebodyfat(%BF)predictedbyBIA compared dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Design:Atotalof591healthysubjectswererecruitedinNewfoundland Labrador. %BF predicted using comparedwiththatmeasuredbyDXA.Methodsagreementwasassessed Pearson’s correlation Bland Altman analysis. Differences in among groups based were analyzed one-factor variance Bonferroni correction. Results: Correlations between DXA 0.88 for whole population, 0.78 men, 0.85 women. The mean determined (32.89 8.00%) significantly lower than that measured (34.72 8.66%). cutoffs specific. overestimated 3.03% 4.40% when 15% men 25% women, respectively, underestimated 4.32% 2.71% 33% respectively. Conclusions: a good alternative estimating subjects within normal fat range. tends overestimate lean underestimate obese subjects. Am J Clin Nutr 2005;81:74–8.
