Male survivors of sexual assault : to tell or not to tell?

摘要: Male rape is an underreported and under-researched crime that has serious consequences for survivors. This thesis presents a thematic analysis of interview transcripts with six survivors male sexual assault. The data collected from interviews was divided into four themes: ‘Difficult to talk’, ‘Isolation’, ‘Reporting Rape’ ‘Identity’. These themes all sat within wider discourse masculinity. The indicated participants struggled construct understand their experiences. silence surrounding in society seemed leave without frame reference or the words describe what had happened them. Their appeared dismantle previously held internal image self have negotiate new, reconstructed identities. Constructions masculinity affect decision disclose others, including reporting police. Taking control police other services be one way reclaim they perceived themselves lost rape. Throughout participants’ talk, anger central pervasive theme; sense it simmered constantly men would more acute at times deemed control. This ends recommendations supporting suggestions future research.
