摘要: Microspectrophotometric investigations of visual pigments in the teleost family Cichlidae determined that morphological "twin cones" need not be "pigment twins" as well. In each species there were two could found these cells; a "longwave" and "shortwave" type whose precise spectral location varies for species, making terms red green inadequate to describe them. Studies receptor mosaic with nitro-blue tetrazolium chloride reduction technique permitted sampling larger populations confirmed twin cones several cichlid either longwave-longwave, longwave-shortwave, or shortwave-shortwave pairs, relative proportions cone types vary different parts retinas. Nonuniform distribution pigment was also evident eyes other from variety piscine taxa.
