摘要: Although antimicrobial resistance to Streptococcus pneumoniae has been increased dramatically worldwide, there is limited information of pattern susceptibility for this pathogen in Puerto Rico. Hospital-based surveillance invasive pneumococcal infections was begun among 38 hospitals island-wide Rico from January December, 2001. One hundred ninety-two cases disease were identified. Of the 177 isolates available testing, 50.3% susceptible penicillin and 49.7% nonsusceptible (intermediate (I) (R)) (19.2% I, 30.5% R). Resistance documented expanded spectrum cephalosporins macrolides. All vancomycin. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, smoking bronchial asthma most common risk factors associated with adult population. Bronchial pediatric population a fatality rate 21%. There no mortality detected patients infected resistant strains. Most serotypes are represented 23-valent polysaccharide vaccine (78%) 7-valent conjugate (62%). Penicillin-resistant (47%) 14, 19F, 6B, 6A, 9V, 23F, 19A 35B serotype. Our data indicated high prevalence drug-resistant strains S. Continue but serious needed. Asthma an important factor disease. The should be recommended all age groups factor.
