摘要: Abstract We have investigated the reconstruction of Au(100) surface with scanning tunneling microscopy. The measured corrugation pattern is described in detail by an isotropically contracted and slightly rotated, buckled hexagonal top layer, forming incommensurate Au on structure. Contraction atomic spacing 3.82%, rotation 0.1°. underlying cubic layer determines vertical position top-layer atoms but its structure appears to little or no influence contraction. resulting interference shows a dominant buckling various 1× 5 corrugations arranged apparently large unit cell, which approximately X 0 Z Y , where = 24 ± 3, 48 43, depending temperature, − ⩽ Z. 0.
