摘要: This article examines widely circulating discourses on tabloid newspapers, analyzing what they tell us about dominant models of citizenship and their problems. Drawing data from a Mass Observation Archive survey ‘ordinary people's’ views media democracy, the demonstrates that there are only limited number ways to talk popular journalism. What I here call ‘tabloid talk’ is informed by liberal democratic model denounces sensationalist content press seen undermine ‘serious’ ‘rational’ public debate. Tabloid used respondents as strategy distance themselves showing them off ‘good citizens’. It also empowers critique newspapers.
