摘要: Stratigraphic units are defined and described for the Lower Carboniferous succession in Walterstown-Kentstown area of Co. Meath, Ireland. A complete (unexposed) Courceyan from terrestrial red bed facies Baronstown Formation to Moathill Navan Group has been penetrated several boreholes. Although lower part sequence is comparable with at Slane, middle differs markedly two new members, Proudstown Walterstown Members, upper Meath Formation. Syndepositional faulting was initiated during Courceyan, probably latest Pseudopolygnathus multistriatus or early Polygnathus mehli latus time. Movement on ENE trending St. Patrick's Well Fault influenced deposition Member overlying associated development East Midlands depocentre south area. second episode tectonism Chadian resulted uplift erosion ‘block basin’ sedimentation. Subsequent transgression uplifted block led establishment Kentstown Platform, bounded north, west by rocks basinal facies. The Milverton (Chadian-Asbian), confined this platform, unconformably overlies Palaeozoic strata subdivided into three formations: Crufty (late Chadian), Holmpatrick Chadian-Arundian) Mullaghfin Arundian-Asbian). controlled western margin Platform Contemporaneous sediments Fingal (Lucan Naul Formations) accumulated much thicker than age-equivalent platform facies. Platform sedimentation ceased Asbian Brigantian time tectonically induced collapse drowning platform; carbonates onlapped northwards coarse proximal Loughshinny Formation. A distinct gravity anomaly suggests presence a granitoid body within basement. therefore considered have formed buoyant, granite-cored, footwall high analogous Askrigg Alston Blocks northern England.
