摘要: This investigation compared the effects of explicit letter-sound training to holistic word on development recognition in a novel orthography paradigm. In between-subjects design, participants were trained read spoken English words printed alphabet script Korean Hangul. Training took place over four separate sessions with assessment measures conducted throughout. Compared training, component condition resulted significantly better transfer forms and retention previously learned items. Furthermore, yielded greater sensitivity frequency. Variability holistically revealed bimodal distribution performance: high low performing subset. Functional MRI measured cortical responses conditions. Imaging results generally "reading network" overall for component-based particular, regions inferior superior parietal gyri as well left precentral gyrus. comparison readers within group, we found that who implicitly derived sublexical patterns writing system activated more reading network than those did not sufficiently acquire this knowledge. latter group primarily ventral visual regions. We conclude components leads optimal performance alphabetic systems due redundant mechanisms decoding specific form
