摘要: Multicellular organisms have to survive in an environment laden with numerous microorganisms, which represent a potential hazard life. Different strategies been developed ward off infections by preventing microorganisms from entering surfaces and the attack of that already entered epithelia. Therefore, it is not surprising epithelia are equipped various antimicrobial substances act rapidly kill broad range microorganisms. This review summarizes our present knowledge about epithelial peptide antibiotics produced plants, invertebrates, vertebrates including humans. There now strong evidence addition constitutively secreted antibiotics, others induced upon contact or proinflammatory cytokines. β-Defensins one family vertebrate peptides, members inducible recently identified The defensin-characteristic local expression pattern may indicate specialized express characteristic surface might define microflora as well density on surface.
