Stereotypes, stereotype threat and ageing : implications for the understanding and treatment of people with Alzheimer's disease

摘要: Over the past 15 years, a growing body of research has shown that people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are affected not only by brain neuropathology but also their reactions to its effects, environments in which they live, and how treated others. Nevertheless, three relatively neglected social influences on AD remain be examined : negative stereotyping, self-stereotyping stereotype threat. Numerous studies reviewed this paper indicate (1) self-stereotypes at conscious unconscious levels can have adverse effects performance healthy elderly tasks demanding explicit memory (recall particular), (2) mere threat being stereotyped negatively including those involving memory. In paper, we discuss relevance these phenomena for our understanding treatment who exposed stereotypes about old age before after diagnosed. There is evidence suggest may significant AD.
