Rapid, continuous cycling and psychiatric co‐morbidity in pediatric bipolar I disorder

摘要: Objectives: The primary purpose of this study was to describe the clinical presentation bipolar I disorder (BP-I) as it occurs in children and adolescents assess whether manifestations BP-I were similar both age groups. Method: Ninety youths between ages 5 17 years meeting full diagnostic symptom criteria for included study. diagnosis established these based on results a semi-structured interview assessment by child adolescent psychiatrist. course subset youngsters’ illnesses assessed using Life Charting Method (LCM). Data regarding presentation, longitudinal history, psychiatric co-morbidities parental psychopathology also obtained. Results: adolescents. Youths developed an average approximately 5.8 7 symptoms mania during periods elevated or irritable mood. found be cyclic characterized high rates rapid cycling (50%) with almost no inter-episode recovery. Almost 75% subjects met disruptive behavior disorder. High mood disorders fathers. Conclusions: These data suggest that juvenile is valid condition continuum later-onset forms illness.
