摘要: Travel-time estimation is a critical ingredient for transportation management and traveler information—both infrastructure-based in-vehicle. Infrastructure managers operators are interested in estimating optimal freeway sensor density new construction retrofits. Focusing on travel time display roadside variable message signs, this article describes concept developed from first principles of traffic flow establishing density. The method based computing the magnitude under- overprediction during shock passages when using midpoint method. Two case studies presented considering representative dynamics situations. Along with other performance metrics, suggested aggregate measure vehicle-hours traveled (VHT) described reasonable range detector densities.
