摘要: Epidemiological studies suggest that individuals with basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous (SCC) of the skin are more likely to develop other malignancies; however, factors responsible for this unknown. To clarify risk cancers following occurrence BCC SCC, we followed participants in a multicenter cancer prevention trial subsequent malignancies. The study group consisted 1805 SCC patients who had enrolled testing efficacy oral beta-carotene. Medical confirmation was sought all (other than or SCC), which were reported by their next-of-kin over follow-up period 10 years. We computed rate ratio (RR) 95% confidence interval (CI) time first new, primary relation history using proportional hazards model. A total 235 new invasive during 13,887 person-years follow up. modestly elevated one previous SCCs compared those only (adjusted RR, 1.37; CI, 0.91-2.07). Risk also appeared be increased among multiple prior BCCs relative 1.21; 0.91-1.61). Further adjustment smoking history, Quetelet index, radiotherapy, extent actinic damage, treatment assignment, baseline beta-carotene concentrations did not appreciably alter results. Cancer respiratory system most strongly related [RRs (95% CI), 2.20 (1.05-4.62) 2.34 (1.14-4.83), respectively]. Our data unidentified exposures inherited may play common etiological role pathogenesis nonmelanoma cancers, especially although larger would necessary exclude chance these findings.
