摘要: Italians start adult activities such as leaving the parental home at a much later age than is common in other countries comparable levels of development. In this paper we ask whether late transition into adulthood influences lifetime economic opportunities individuals. A priori, it not clear if influence exists, and what its direction. We study survey Italian men their mid 30s that contains data on development life course over time. As measure adulthood, focus home. find individuals who leave earlier earn higher income 30s. Estimation by instrumental variables suggests capture causal effect, from when to subsequent outcomes, result robust various specification model. speculate potential mechanisms through which effect might operate. Given these results, policies aim speeding up young have positive effect.
