On the Road: Marriage and Mobility in Malaysia

摘要: Migration choices of husbands and wives in a dynamic developing country are studied the context an economic model household. Data drawn from second wave Malaysia Family Life Survey. Exploiting retrospective histories, we compare moves that take place before marriage with those made during marriage; among latter, spouse distinguished alone. The evidence indicates male mobility is primarily motivation related to labor market factors. Moves by women, however, seem be more closely fertility or family considerations. apparently not simply individual decision; attributes important influence on mobility, albeit asymmetric manner. Moving toward broader definition household, find characteristics parents, parents-in-law, also (relative) age gender siblings all rich, if complex, way.
