摘要: Chemical and isotopic analyses have been made of pigment samples from two separate rock art sites in Argentina. The purpose the study has to establish feasibility extracting carbonaceous material which will permit reliable radiocarbon dates for time painting. sites, Catamarca Rio Negro, present quite different problems. Most paper is concerned with Catamarca, here we shown that paint pigments contain very little or no organic binder; but they do calcium oxalate derived local cacti, carbonate probably plant ash. We describe a method purify carbon extracted oxalate, obtained on both components. show that, though rare, natural deposits containing calcite occur, are distinct (super 13) C 14) compositions; argue unlikely contaminate such an extent altered. For Negro site ground contains fires burnt inside cave, discuss how analytical methods provide information develop strategy material, pigment, more dating.
