Prospects for the implementation of magneto-optic elements in optoelectronic integrated circuits: a personal perspective

摘要: A review is performed of the major challenges to implementation non-reciprocal functionality provided by magneto-optics in standard optoelectric or photonic integrated circuits. The polarization dynamics presence an unavoidable, structurally-induced birefringence are discussed making use a Hamiltonian approach. Normally, additional would place limitation on degree rotation achievable, but solutions based quasi-phase-matching transverse Kerr effect discussed. It shown that magneto-optic response III?V semiconductors and other common substrate materials small some approaches incorporating with larger reviewed.
