摘要: Abstract A Basin-wide Index of Benthic Integrity (B-IBI) was developed to uniformly assess aquatic ecosystem health non-tidal, wadeable streams in the multi-jurisdictional Potomac River basin (US). Multiple datasets were merged and used identify stream classes discriminating biological metrics. The index (aggregated metric scores) accurately identified 95% impaired sites. jackknife cross-validation procedure confirmed accuracy B-IBI. B-IBI assessments generally compare favorably states’ derived from same data. habitat quality matrix which includes an indicator anthropogenic alterations disturbances is recommended. more useful than existing state-specific indexes for comparisons across jurisdictional boundaries basin-wide. can improve understanding water issues enhance abilities managers make well-informed decisions concerning basin's non-tidal waters.
