摘要: Abstract Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) larvae are capable of developing in one many hosts that may vary greatly quality. We hypothesized they will respond to the larval environment a manner beneficial their subsequent reproductive performance. Accordingly, we investigated effects various diets (varying amount protein and sugar contain) on size, development time, nutritional status maturation (ovarian onset sexual behaviour) females males. found flies which undergo artificial host contain (‘protein-fed’) were larger, developed faster emerged with more reserves than protein-deprived as larvae. Protein-fed males, regardless became sexually active before males no protein. produced mature eggs ones. Moreover, protein-fed tended copulate sooner In addition, female diet, less eggs. light these results, importance for adult success is discussed.
