Social Identity and Ethnic Interaction in the Western Pueblos of the American Southwest

摘要: With the increasing realization of frequency migration in prestratified societies, our understanding ethnic interaction needs to become more sophisticated. This paper discusses societies on a theoretical level by examining currently used models based Barth's concepts (Barth, F., Ethnic Groups and Boundaries, Little, Brown, Boston, 1969, pp. 9–39) Bourdieu's concept habitus (Bourdieu, P., Outline Theory Practice, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1977). These current are flawed, an alternative model relying reflexive decisions agents who constrained their place within existing social structure is presented. then examine identity Western Pueblo three areas central Arizona: Point Pines, Grasshopper, Silver Creek. All were locations prehistoric subsequent between migrants indigenous peoples. However, nature differed considerably, with ethnicity being emphasized some places, de-emphasized others, ignored all together still others.
