摘要: Alumina/ceria-stabilized zirconia bars tested in four-point bending exhibited deformation bands on the tensile side due to localized tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation. These became increasingly darker and were fully visible some weeks after experiment. XPS spectra revealed that regions are characterized by a higher concentration of cerium + 3 oxidation state, as opposed other undeformed regions, which 4 is predominant state. A numerical calculation established residual stresses exist bands. It suggested these facilitate reduction with gradient stress motivating diffusion oxygen vacancies.
