Head and neck oncology experience in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

摘要: OBJECTIVES To present our experience in head and neck cancer, the development of own local electronic Makkah Head Neck Database. METHODS A prospective collection cases was conducted between October 2007 November 2008 patients diagnosed with cancer within Department Otolaryngology, Surgery at Al-Noor Specialist Hospital, Makkah, Kingdom Saudi Arabia. RESULTS Forty-four were included this study. There 24 males (54.5%), 20 females (45.5%). Sixteen (36.4%) had oral cavity 10 (22.7%) hypopharyngeal nasopharyngeal 6 (13.6%) thyroid 2 (4.5%) secondary-unknown primary. Thirty-six (81.8%) presented stages III IV versus 8 (18.1%) I II (p=0.0016). Twenty-four (54.5%) managed primarily by surgery, while (45.5%) non-surgically form external beam radiotherapy (XRT), or XRT/Chemotherapy. Outcomes were: 16 (38%) free any recurrence, (5%) died perioperative period, loco-regional (54%) lost follow up. CONCLUSIONS All oncological services including radiotherapy, chemotherapy should be provided one oncology center, through a standard channel, namely, Oncology Board, to achieve patient care, adequate up, surveillance.
