摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses gene conversion in African trypunosome antigenic variation. Antigenic variation allows trypanosomes' to escape the immune defenses of their hosts. occurs through differential surface antigen activation, with only one being expressed at any time among a large repertoire different sequences. The activation can be achieved by antigen-specific sequences, taking place telomeric expression site. analysis several endpoints and comparison mechanism for mating type interconversion yeast suggests that process could triggered cut upstream from then resolved crossing-over region homology downstream this point. take anywhere within regions homology, but recombinations leading successful generation new antigen-coding sequences would selected. Based on model, it is possible explain mini-chromosomes harboring Translocation such haploid other end chromosomes lead internalization formerly genes clustering near chromosome termini. Studies show orientation determined chromatin structure around gene.
