摘要: Self-sealing seam construction for recreational fabrics and other uses reducing the tendency to permit water penetration leaking. The includes use of one a number overlapping type seams formed with resistant fabrics. In overlapped area, between fabrics, strip or tape highly resilient, nontacky, weather elastomeric material is provided. by more stitching lines placed so that sewing needle penetrates not only but as well. resilient nature causes it stretch eventually aperture under action and, when withdrawn, elastic tends return its original position thus closing tightly around thread positioned within needle. result seal minimizing any open area remaining from operation. Preferred materials also include those having high ultimate elongation, preferably in range about 400 750%, tensile, 2500 4200 psi, cases where elongation less than 400%, rebound, 33% 49% low permanent set, 35%. addition, nontacky thin unduly exaggerate overall thickness wider width while narrower width. Specific examples neoprene elastomer 0.030 in., 0.75 tensile strength 3200 modulus at 500 percent 9000 psi used seaming combination polypropylene nonwoven fabric material. Other preferred embodiments seamed constructions wherein edges are folded over avoid raw edge exposure improved appearance.
