Paroxetine for pruritus in advanced cancer

摘要: Pruritus associated with malignancy may be one of the most bothersome symptoms in advanced cancer. Its control is still difficult to achieve and a challenge palliative medicine specialists. We describe five patients suffering from pruritus different etiologies who responded rapidly administration paroxetine, serotonin reuptake inhibitor, dose-dependent manner. Two experienced transient but severe nausea vomiting. suggest that paroxetine's antipruritic effect explained by rapid downregulation 5-HTs receptors, which have an important role generation pain.
