摘要: Shortlisted for the Katharine Briggs Folklore Award 2000.Relationships between dress and body have existed in European Anatolian folk cultures well into twentieth century. Traditional long held belief that certain articles of could protect from harm by warding off 'evil eye,' bring fertility to new brides, or assure human control supernatural powers. Ritual fringes, archaic motifs, colors such as black red were believed powerful, magical effects. This absorbing interdisciplinary book examines a broad range - Turkey, Greece, Slovakia Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, name but few. Authors reveal connection ancient myths, cults rituals, communicative aspects dress. How is an individual attired specific ensemble located within community? Is community gendered one women, village residence, larger geographical region nation?
