摘要: The Turkana Basin preserves a long and detailed record of biotic evolution, cultural development, rift valley geology in its sedimentary strata. Before the formation modern basin, Cretaceous fluvial systems, Paleogene lakes, Oligo-Miocene volcano-sedimentary sequences left fossil-bearing strata region. These deposits were part related to an early system basins that stretched from Sudan Indian Ocean. present-day basin has origins Pliocene tectonic developments rift, with subsidence making room for more than one kilometer Plio-Pleistocene Much this sequence belongs Omo Group, richly fossiliferous sediments associated ancestral River tributaries. Modern Lake stretching back 200 thousand years, earlier lake phases throughout Plio-Pleistocene. geologic history is dynamic landscapes responding environmental influences, including tectonics, volcanic activity climate.
