摘要: Abstract Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), are multifactorial diseases involving age, genetics, and environment. As such, the model in which one examines biology potential therapeutics should incorporate these three salient features. In both cell culture systems rodent models, environment contributions genetic background can be easily assessed. However, studying effects of age is either not possible (cell culture) or expensive (rodents), especially for drug discovery. Additionally, complex mammalian brain easiest to image in vivo AD pathology hallmarks. For reasons, simple organisms utilized. Caenorhabditis elegans, Drosophila melanogaster, Danio rerio have long been used research; taking advantage short lifespans, well-characterized inexpensive maintenance environmental pharmacology studies. this chapter, benefits research will discussed, including available transgenics use pharmaceutical testing.
