Acute and chronic ozone exposure temporarily affects seed germination in alpine plants

摘要: AbstractThis study was the first to investigate direct effects of anomalous concentrations ozone mediated by summer heat waves on seed germination in alpine plants. During germination, seeds were exposed three peaks O3 concentration (125 ppb for 5 and 10 days; 185 ppb 5 days), derived from measurements taken close species growing site. High delayed time, increased mean reduced percentage during immediately after treatment, but, most cases, weak had almost vanished three weeks treatments. In few chronic exposure (125 10 days’ treatment) enhanced compared control, suggesting that may induce antioxidant DNA-repair mechanisms or dormancy-breaking hydrated seeds.
