摘要: We report the observation of an inverted cubic phase in aqueous dispersions 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DOPE) by small-angle X-ray diffraction. DOPE is a paradigm study nonlamellar phases biological systems: it exhibits well-known transition from lamellar (L alpha) to hexagonal (HII) as temperature raised. The observed occur rapidly when dispersion heated 2 degrees C, where L alpha stable, 15 HII stable. on induction crystallographically well-defined lattice that slowly formed lipid cycled between -5 and C hundreds times. Once formed, stable at 4 for several weeks same remarkable metastability characterizes other lipid-water systems. diffraction indicates most consistent with either Pn3m or Pn3 space group. Tests purity after indicate least 98% pure. can be destroyed system reset cycling specimen times -30 C. kinetics formation are dependent thermal history sample, overall water concentration, extreme temperatures cycle.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
