摘要: When a powerful femtosecond laser pulse propagates in transparent optical medium, be it gas or condensed the will self-focus into series of self-foci, giving rise to perception filament. This universal nonlinear propagation phenomenon is currently an interesting research topic at forefront applied physics and attracts more people this field. In chapter some fundamental physical concepts underlying filamentation are discussed. These include slice-by-slice self-focusing, intensity clamping, self-transformation white light (supercontinuum generation), background reservoir multiple competition. Some important potential applications also briefly mentioned.
