摘要: The substantial variation in birth weight-adjusted mortality among neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) may reflect differences population illness severity. Development of an severity measure is essential for comparisons outcomes. Score Neonatal Acute Physiology (SNAP) was developed and validated prospectively on 1643 admissions (114 deaths) three NICUs. SNAP scores the worst physiologic derangements each organ system first 24 hours. showed little correlation with weight highly predictive even within narrow strata. It capable separating patients into groups 2 to 20 times higher risk. also correlated other indicators including nursing workload (r = .59), therapeutic intensity .78), physician estimates risk .65), length stay (R2 .59). important new tool NICU research.
