摘要: More than a quarter of bird species are concentrated in areas that together make up just one per cent the earth's land surface. These restricted range include almost three-quarters all threatened birds. BirdLife International has identified 218 Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs), which hold at least two species, although some support more 60. EBAs provide reasonable overlap with biodiversity hotspots by other conservation organisations, and focus for action. At heart this book descriptions EBAs, including key habitats, major threats initiatives detailed map. Tables list restricted-range present, their global status, habitat requirements distribution. Introductory sections present regional overviews. The authors discuss wider relevance why birds good indicators biodiversity, how can be used effectively to influence policy-makers. 'A comprehensive overview regions world vast majority our imperilled vulnerable birds' - "Birding". 'Will mined extensively years those studying patterns biodiversity' "The Quarterly Review Biology". 'The ultimate guide range-restricted Conservation managers, ecologists birders alike will want own unprecedented work' "Conservation 'where watch birds" "BBC Wildlife".
