摘要: Abstract This work is the result of detailed geological mapping and stratigraphic analysis Lepidocyclina Limestone in northern sector Majella Mountains (Central Apennines). The represents an informal member Bolognano Formation (Chattian to Messinian age). Four main lithofacies have been recognized: planar cross-bedded grainstone (FA); moderate-angle, packstone (FB); sigmoidal (FC); bioturbated marly wackestone (FD). A description recognized facies association given this work, together with interpretation corresponding depositional setting a discussion related larger-scale processes. In summary, profile consistent carbonate ramp, where most sediments appear be parautochthonous middle ramp environment autochthonous-dominated outer environment. Palaeocurrent patterns indicate strong, generally north–west basin-ward direction that affected developed wide, down-slope migrating dune field. Considering warm Oligocene climate Mediterranean area was favorable tropical cyclone development, both terms frequency intensity, it suggested return currents generated by strong winds or storms were common on “Lepidocyclina” thus favoring development observed
