摘要: Beta thalassemia major is an inherited disease resulting from reduction or total lack of beta globin chains. Patients with this need repeated blood transfusion for survival. This may cause oxidative stress and tissue injury due to iron overload, altered antioxidant enzymes, other essential trace element levels. The aim review scrutinize the relationship between serum elements, degree damage caused by stress, role enzymes in patients. findings indicate that patients mainly over production free radical secondary alteration elements level. like selenium, copper, iron, zinc reveals a significant change these elements. Studies published on status catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione, glutathione S-transferase also showed variable results. administration selective antioxidants along minerals reduce extent related complications still further evaluation.
