Fifty-two patients requiring reconstruction (36 unilateral/16 bilateral) were operated on during period 2006-2012; 68 total prostheses implanted (Biomet Microfixation Replacement System). mean age at surgery 52.6±11.5 years. Changes values inclusion diagnostic criteria entry assessed. These included persistent and significant pain, functional impairment after failure other surgical therapies, imaging evidence consistent advanced disease more than 1-year duration. Subjects excluded if they presented insufficient quantity/quality bone support replacement, severe hyperfunctional habits, active infectious disease, or an inability follow postoperative instructions. Over 2 years follow-up, pain intensity reduced from 6.4±1.4 1.6±1.2 (P<0.001), jaw opening improved 2.7±0.9cm 4.2±0.7cm (P<0.001). During period, three implants (4%) explanted new replacements fitted. results view that placement provides long-term improvements function, few complications.
