Assessment of Retrospective and Current Substance Use in Women Who Inject Drugs in Low-Income Urban Settings in Kenya

摘要: Women who inject drugs (WWIDs) continue to experience challenges that accumulate their risk HIV transmission and other co-morbidities. However, data conceptually link diverse substance use dimensions in WWIDs are lacking particularly developing countries. We assessed retrospective current among 306 low-income urban settings Kenya using mixed methods. Descriptive analyses were performed on quantitative while qualitative narratives revealed insights from findings. The mean age of the study participants was 17 (range 11, 30) years. Out 57% commenced with by combining both licit illicit drugs. Intimate sexual partners including spouses casual sex introduced seventy-four percent use. Majority (39.9%) 2- way combination bhang cigarette having highest usage. 4-way combinations containing heroin, cigarette, bhang, valium, Rohypnol had frequency (12.8%) at time survey. Varied routes heroin administration mentioned injection, smoking sniffing as separate 2-way or 3-way mode these. To inform policies targeting health rights girls women low income settings, this recommends urgent upstream girl adolescent life form a multifunctional package composed identifying risk, interventions, education, improved educational attainment, progressive social target economic status phase. Harm reduction programs should people through injection non-injection modes administration.
