摘要: Minerals and rocks derived from the Earth provide many of materials needed by society, yet their production use consumes finite resources produces large quantities wastes. The Earth's are its ecosystems have capacities to cope with wastes produced human consumption. local global challenges caused unprecedented levels production, associated consumption disposal wastes, will only grow as living standards in underdeveloped countries continue rise. concept sustainable development arose response this other environmental social issues. This section discusses meaning various interpretations sustainability, particularly they relate minerals metals. Next, long-term availability, or supply, metals factors affecting demand for them considered. waste issue is examined exploring opportunities move toward zero extraction processing, including reengineering industrial ecology solutions. Finally, stewardship introduced a model proposed means addressing sustainability
